The Government of Bihar on August 13, 2026, notified the Bihar Gambling (Prohibition) Act, 2026.
The following has been stated: -
•The Bihar Gambling (Prohibition) Act, 2026 prohibits all forms of gambling and betting in Bihar, including online, electronic, digital and mobile app-based gambling.
•It replaces the Public Gambling Act, 1867 and introduces stricter penalties for gambling, operating or financing gambling houses, and repeat offences.
•The Act also prohibits advertising and publication/broadcast of gambling-related content.
•Police officers of the rank of Sub-Inspector or above are empowered to search and arrest offenders without a warrant in specified circumstances, with powers to seize or freeze related funds and accounts.
•Companies and persons responsible for their gambling-related operations can also be held liable, with penalties extending to imprisonment and substantial fines.
It shall come into force on August 13, 2026.
